For the past 10 days, the staff have been entering cells, throwing around and destroying property, while placing the facility on a 24-hour a day lockdown (ended Aug. 28). Approximately 140 inmates were taken to the SHU — about one-sixth of the population.
This “riot” ensued when Lieutenant Dawson was exposed to fentanyl that he found in a housing unit. While staff apparently did find drugs in the property of the inmates sent to the SHU, staff victimized everyone. Further, scores of staff members violated BOP policy in the process.
