Prison Pulse Report

The boiler broke down last Wednesday. They are saying now that it will take at least three weeks to get anyone to so much as look at the thing. (It is difficult to find someone who can fix 19th century tech in the 21st century. This equipment was installed in 1905, and the design was approved in 1899, under President McKinley!) We are now in an arctic snap, with no heat and no hot water. I don’t know what the official temperatures are, but if they will be going down into the teens (I think they are scheduled to do so this coming week), then this will be “shades of MDC Brooklyn” all over again. In the meantime, we’re coping with coats, thermal underwear,  …. and bird baths!

Jan, 7 update: Those charged with fixing the boiler found a work-around (don’t know what yet), so the hot water is back but the housing units have to heat back up. I don’t know how long that will take.
