Prison Pulse Report

I would like to comment on the fact that the BOP and especially here at Fairton FCI in New Jersey does not engage with inmates, even with the technology that is part of the basic infrastructure of every institution. I am talking about the TRULINCS system that most BOP inmates use every day. I have been at No-Fair Fairton since October 2024 and the staff have never answered a single email I have sent to the various departments, no matter the reason or urgency.

Also, there hasn’t been a working printer on my side of the dorm since I arrived. So, the officer can’t print a callout list for us. The only way we get one is if the assigned officer for the 2-10 p.m. shift goes to the next-door dorm and asks that CO to print one. (It’s not available electronically.) Most times we don’t get one until the midnight shift comes in and THEN we can view it — if and when they feel like opening our doors.

Meanwhile, there is absolutely no reliable schedule here. Every day, the doors are opened at different times, meal times are always different, and work call is a joke. (They act like going to work is a privilege for us.) They will call Recreation at, say, 6:40 a.m., then call insulin line, followed by the kitchen, canteen and laundry workers. Since when is it paramount that recreation comes before starting chow or laundry? In the last three months or so, the laundry hasn’t been open more than three times a week. This morning, my dorm was all lined up to go to chow and drop off their laundry (which hasn’t been done since last Thursday) and when we got to the laundry room, they informed us it is is closed! Try again tomorrow!

[Note about the laundry: They wash clothes from three dorms or over 300 men at the same time by cramming the machines so full the contents cannot get washed properly. When they come out, the clothes are still filthy and smell horrible. The inmate who runs the laundry wants to get done as close to 11 a.m. as he can so he can get to rec and work out by the noon move.]

Everything here is falling apart, and by that I mean the infrastructure as well as the machinery, but hey, the grass is mowed and the sidewalks are swept …
