I have been here two years. When I first got here, it was good. But now, a new warden has come. She is by far the worst warden I’ve seen in my 22 years of incarceration. In the months she’s been here, she’s managed to change things drastically — and not to accommodate or help us become better individuals The staff don’t even like her. They complain about her methods just as much as the AICs.
Most notably and important to me, she has limited our access to recreation, the law library and legal materials. We used to be able to access both recreation and the law library eight hours a day, but now we now only get one to three hours per day, depending on what day it is.
In addition, all that seems to be consistent here is the lockdowns. Almost every lockdown is for a week. Even the staff doesn’t think that a week of lockdown is a reasonable consequence for most incidents. Our most resent lockdown was the result of a care level 4 (mental health) who assaulted a staff member. We were locked down tight for about a week.
The warden is a very unapproachable person. She doesn’t seem to be here to help us at all – only punish us.
