A lieutenant broke my trans daughter’s hand and arm when he handcuffed her and leveraged them against the bars; he pulled until they were broken. Then he filed false reports, which were disproven by videos.
In addition, she was forced to use a top bunk, even though she is a tall, overweight individual. In the middle of the night, she rolled off and fell several feet, hitting a barrier. After that, she became very ill and requested medical attention. For days, she got no response. Finally, with temperature of 103.9, she was airlifted to a hospital in Raleigh and was diagnosed with MRSA. After a week of antibiotics, she was returned to prison, still with a large hole in her leg and on strong pain meds. Her bandages must be changed twice a day. I am 67 in few days and I worry she will die before she is released in January.
From a fellow prisoner: Grace almost died recently and needed emergency surgery. She’s been in the hospital since Nov. 6 with a temperature of 103.9, due to sepsis and shock. It is scary to get sick in this place! She begged them for 10 days to help her and they basically told her to go ahead and die already.
Nov. 22 (David Simpkins/Valerie): On Wednesday of this week they came to Grace’s cell “on Captain Hock’s orders” and told her she was being moved to the most isolated area of the SHU, called the “short range,” because it has only five cells for camp/minimum security inmates. Grace was put in the far back cell; her windows were covered; and all her hygiene items, legal papers, books and personal possessions were taken. They even left her without toilet paper. Then they put her through a strip search and a “digital rectal cavity search,” which is when they stick fingers in your rectal sphincter and spread it apart to look inside your anus for contraband. It can only be authorized by the regional director.
The next day, they told her that captain S. Hock wanted her moved again to the adjacent cell. They stripped her again, and put her in the shower naked and shivering for 10 minutes. Then the captain himself walked in on her and her other trans cellmate – Michael Dye aka Mya #15252-042 – and told them he was going to take Grace’s halfway house time away and write fake “threat assessments” to keep her in the SHU until her max release date (which is a year from now). Grace screamed, “This is a fucking PREA, get away from me! I am naked!” But he just kept taunting her for about 10 minutes before leaving.
So, they put her in the new cell, this time without bedding or linens. The next day they came to move her again. But the night before, I let Grace use my phone to call her mom and she told her mom to call the OIG and report the captain on a PREA violation which she did. On Friday, the captain retaliated and they wrote Grace seven fake incident reports, accusing her of things that are obviously not true and the camera footage will prove she never did any of it. They are now denying her a shower, access to the law library, recreation, everything!
