Prison Pulse Report

I sustained a work injury at UNICOR. While my hand was in a machine, another inmate activated a hydraulic press that crushed my thumb. It was completely degloved as a result. I was taken by van to a local hospital, where I had a couple hours of reconstructive surgery.

The day after the incident, I was asked to sign a pre-filled accident report, which I should have filled out. I was also asked to sign paperwork saying I was trained on this machine. But I never received any staff-led training for use of that machine, and was never even shown a safety film.

These people neglected to take me to follow-up care for almost a year after the original surgery. I now have very limited dexterity in that thumb, I am scheduled for another surgery, but the hand surgeon isn’t very optimistic. It has taken 21 months to exhaust my administrative remedies! I am filing suit, and requested my medical records.

After 14 months and administrative remedies, I received 98 pages filled with unabashed and deliberate lies. There are entries stating that I was at an appointment that I never attended. When you’re on lockdown 65% of the time, you can’t attend medical callouts you don’t know exist and when you don’t have a key to let yourself out of the cell.
