The air in our unit has been off since the power went out (a part broke that they have to order). AND THEN…the water went off Friday. They warned us that it was going to go off so I was at least able to get a shower in. We have been through this before here at Sheridan, so we filled all the garbage cans in the unit up with water to flush the toilets. Today we learned that a pipe broke during a landslide in Sheridan, and the water is going to be off indefinitely!
Let me paint a picture of what this means: I live in a bathroom. In that bathroom is another man who lives there as well. In the unit I live in, there are 130 people. And when nature calls you have to go! We also now cannot take a shower! So, you can imagine the smell in the unit! To make it a little more painful, they just told us that they are going to pressurize the system so we can flush the toilets three times a day, when we are locked down for count.
Visiting also has to be modified, since the restrooms in the visiting room can’t be used. People can come but if they have to go to the bathroom they have to leave. Yet the holidays are here and people have come a long way to visit. We can tell that it is going to be a long haul, since they’ve brought in porta-potties for the staff to use.
