Prison Pulse Report

Several AICs who are Care Level 3 and were put in for a medical transfer were denied for an unknown reason. But a friendly case manager here stated it was due to a lack of available beds. When I challenged one of the doctors, she waved a paper  in her hand that apparently outlined a new algorithm for determining care levels.

I think they are attempting to hide the real numbers of the aging/sick prisoners. Downgrading care levels creates the  impression that the Care 3 people have become healthier. It’s a smoke and mirror approach.

FCI Thomson has a state-of-the-art x-ray facility, but no tech to run it. But instead of hiring a temp, they are sending busloads to outside facilities at a huge cost. But they only do that once every quarter, so now they’re running almost a year behind on simple x-ray orders.

Meanwhile, we have about AICs walking around holding in hernias that are 5-30 cms in size, with poor vascularization and a high degree of discoloration (blue/purple). Some have been waiting five or more years for surgery.
