In A-unit, one of the government computers in the officer station was observed with its screen background on. The background was a solid color (white or light gray) with two shadow figures in the center. One figure was on his knees facing away from the other character in a submissive position. The second shadow figure was standing behind him with a pistol aimed at his head, a classic execution style configuration. Surrounding the image were the words “Shoot your local pedophile.”
This is inappropriate for many reasons:
1. Any image or wording advocating violence against another is inappropriate on ANY government computer, in any department of the government and in violation of numerous federal regulations.
2. This image specifically references a segment of the inmate population at Thomson and is thus a direct and credible threat of violence and death.
3. It also encourages other inmates who view the image and wording to think that violence against that segment of the inmate population is condoned.
4. This shows a complete lack of accountability by the IT coordinator.
5. That screen has no doubt been seen by other correctional officer, supervisors, unit team and other management and NO ONE reported it or took action to correct it and hold the offending officer accountable.
6. If this same image was on this employee’s Facebook or other public social media page, the employee would face immediate dismissal as should be the case here.
