Prison Pulse Report

We get out of our cells two hours late every morning, and it’s because there is no officer in the unit next door. (Our officer has to cover both.) I watch him get here two hours late; I guess staff can choose to come to work whenever they feel like it. I have not seen my counselor in over 50 days; he may have been here, but he doesn’t put himself at anyone’s disposal. He spends more time and energy hiding from us than he would if he showed for work and did his job. We need cell moves to keep us from fighting each other, and he knows it. But it hasn’t happened for a while.

We haven’t been outside in over 40 days; we are being refused outdoor recreation just because there is snow on the ground and the recreation officer doesn’t want to walk through the it. And they also don’t want to check the yard. But we are entitled to a minimum of five hours of outdoor rec every seven days.

Meanwhile, they’ve been deliberately leaving the door from the SHU to the outside open from midnight to 7 a.m. It’s the coldest i have ever been in my life.  All the staff wore their coats and gloves. But we are only given one blanket and two sheets. And the regular units are about 80 degrees, far too warm. They do this when someone complains about the temperature, to torture all of us for one person’s complaint.

And then there is the wanton abuse. An older man was slammed into the snow by an officer last night, between 6 and 8:30 p.m.. The officer seemed to be trying to pick a fight with us. He saw me, the older man and another friend and ordered me to step out and put my hands on the wall. So, I walked past the door and put my hands on the wall. Ge pointed at the door and asked me what I was doing,. I said the door is not the wall. Ten he told me to spread my legs and he patted me down and told me to leave,  did not see what happened after that, but they took the older man outside and then to the lieutenant’s office. He is still scraped up.
