The Central Office is no longer updating the law library computer with new case law. The last case law update was November 18, 2025..
From a jailhouse lawyer at another facility: The ELL vender was separated and there is currently an RFP for a contracted replacement. I am working on a short motion I intend on including with any filings until we get the new system in place. The motion will ask the court to require copies of any post Nov 1, 2025, case law the opposition relies on in its briefing to be attached with the brief.
From William Hooper at USP Tucson: A lot of people here have written it up and submitted grievances. They put the contract out for bid last week and then almost immediately closed it. I do not know if that means they are selecting someone or just going to call the bid “nonresponsive” and close out the law library service as a cost savings. It’s a real issue for people who are trying to challenge their convictions or write a commutation application. Some form of law library access is truly a necessary service and is required by a US Supreme Court ruling from 1974.
The other thing we have noticed is that access to some key cases, mostly those for which the findings were for the defendant (like Pulido from last October in the 11th circuit), are not shortcut-enabled anymore. If you do not know the citation you cannot find the case. It’s the same for several USSC cases. There is no way to get them if you don’t already know about them and have the citation written down. It sucks!!!
