We came off an eight-day lockdown yesterday. They keep screaming that they are short on staff, but there’s officers sitting around in the units every day. They don’t let us clean the unit or showers after hundreds of guys use them; the sanitation here is bad and they don’t care if we get sick or about the germs that are spreading through the prison. They also aren’t cleaning/exchanging our linens three times a week as required by policy.
I filed grievances, but they’ve been ignored or they retaliate against me. The one exception was laundry. When I complain they finally do our linens.
I have asked guys here to help themselves by filing remedies so we have clean the showers and linen. But most of the dudes fear the retaliation that comes when you file. For example, one officers went into my cell and took all my stamps so that I can’t send out mail.
I know that I am in prison, but this place feels more like some war camp where you no rights and no voice.
