We’ve had the MAT program here for about two years, and just this past Friday we had a meeting for all participants. (They are required to organize two therapy sessions every month as part of the program.) This was the first time someone from medical (the nurse practitioner, who is the prescribing agent) actually attended and answered questions from the group. We are still waiting on the doctor in charge of the pharmacy to come and answer questions. We’ve asked numerous times for an outline or even a program statement and thus far it has not been forthcoming. A shortage of staff seems to be the main obstacle. And the reason for insisting on the shot over the strips seems to be solely security-based. Everything in the BOP is justified by that one simple word…security. They use that word for every decision they make, even if it seems to make ZERO sense. I am of the opinion that health care should outweigh security.
