Prison Pulse Report

We had two incidents of staff assaults on inmates this morning (Nov. 23). The first occurred during the 9 a.m. recall for count when a CO (Officer B.) assaulted a guy when he was coming back from rec, just when he got to the “guard shack.” The guy was high on K2 and grabbed at the CO’s jacket. A female CO (Officer O.) approached and he took a swing at her. Up until this point, it appears the two COs were  only performing their duties. But then Officer B. got on top of the inmate, grabbed his head and twisted it, then threatened to break his neck. At this time, the inmate was fully compliant, saying “I ain’t resisting, man.” It was a George Floyd moment. There has to be surveillance video of this.

Then during lunch, a guy named Cristian (who does not speak English) was walking toward the back of the ACH 1 housing unit when the unit officer called to him in English to come back. I saw Cristian turn around, but then continue walking. The unit officer hit the emergency button and followed him to the cell he entered. Then a group of staff (about 10, including the counselor for A-1) came running. They pulled Cristian out of the cell, and slammed him against both the wall and the floor. He was not resisting at the time I saw him pulled out of the cell.

Cristian was taken to the SHU, and has not been seen since. Apparently, he has received additional injuries; he may have been assaulted again after he left my sight.
