Prison Pulse Report

This place has a very bad habit of doing things their way, not the supposedly BOP way. There are a number of Medical Care Level 4s here: inmates who were kicked out of the FMC (Federal Medical Center or hospital, if you will) due to insufficient bed space. So, they put us in a Medical Care Level 3 Medium that is “medical” in name only! I can’t describe how bad it is or what we are experiencing due to the BOP’s inability to take proper care of us. Just know that it is very shameful. This compound doesn’t follow BOP policy or guidelines. At FCI 2, a friend had to have his left kidney removed and a hernia repair done at Duke Hospital. He was initially out for four days. He was brought back to FCI 2 for about two and a half weeks before he got an infection and was sent back to Duke for another two and a half weeks. Then he went to the FMC for another four months before they kicked him out because they “needed the bed space.” He hadn’t fully recovered yet! Here, instead of sending him to Medical on Monday, Wednesday and Friday to have his dressing changed, as he was supposed to, this place only sent him Wednesday, and he had to argue for THAT.

Dr. Patrick Craft, the chief medical person here, is known as Dr. Death. The only other doctor is Dr. Rogers. I’ve seen Dr. Rogers twice since I’ve been here, and the last time, when I told him I had prostate cancer, he had to look that up on the computer to make sure I was telling the truth! Management is truly lacking, and group punishment is the norm. We get commissary only twice a month, the first and third weeks, because they are out of stock of almost everything.
