FCI Talladega has been locking us down on the weekends for no reason. And today, we weren’t let out until 8:30 a.m., when they knew we’d have to go right back in at 10 for the count. We’re let out at 11, then locked in again until 1:30 p.m.! Their excuse is a shortage of officers. This has been the schedule every week lately.
When we brought our concerns to the warden and AW, they say they can’t make the officers come to work on the weekend; we have to hire more officers to prevent the lockdowns. But why do the officers who work in the rec department just sit in the yard? Why aren’t they inside the housing units assisting their peers? And why do the unit officers come in on the weekends and just sit in their office from 6 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., while inmates are locked in their cells for other reason?
