At visits, we have to sit about 10 feet away from each other, and they don’t let us eat or drink anything for the entire eight hours we are allowed to be together. Our families can order from the vending machines for themselves, but we aren’t allowed to eat anything. I get visits about twice a month, sometimes more, but I just have my family members leave at lunch time; it sucks, but its better than going without food or drink. Administration thinks they are slowing down the flow of drugs into the intuition this way. But it’s very obvious that people have just found other ways to get drugs in, because it’s out of control here. The evidence is the number of people who go to the SHU for overdosing, not to mention all the failed drug tests.
